Thousands of members visit Costco every day to grab great deals on a variety of jewelry items such as gold rings, necklaces, earrings, and much more.

However, what happens if you realize that you didn’t like the jewelry you bought from Costco and want to return it? Here is what I’ve discovered about Costco’s jewelry return policy through my research!

Costco Jewelry Return Policy

Costco accepts returns of jewelry items such as rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets at any time after purchase both in-store and online. To return gold and diamond jewelry of 1.00 carat or more, you must bring the IGI and GIA paperwork to authenticate the jewelry.

If you want to learn more about the process for returning jewelry items to Costco, whether you can return jewelry without a receipt, and much more, keep on reading!

How Long Do You Have To Return Jewelry Items To Costco?

Based on Costco’s returns policy, there is no set time limit during which you are allowed to return jewelry items to Costco.

With such a generous returns policy, customers can head over to their local Costco warehouse at any point after purchasing the jewelry item to return it back to Costco.

What Jewelry Items Can You Return To Costco?

Costco sells the following types of jewelry items:

  • Rings
  • Earrings
  • Necklaces
  • Bracelets

These are available in pure gold, with diamonds, as fashion (artificial) jewelry, or with embedded birthstones.

Costco allows members to return all of these categories of jewelry items both in-store and online.

However, for gold or diamond items of more than 1.00 carat, you will be given GIA and IGI reports that you must bring along at the time of return to get your jewelry authenticated before it can be returned.

How Can You Return Jewelry Bought On Costco.com?

You can return jewelry purchased on Costco’s website and get full refunds for the price of the item as well as the shipping and handling fees you paid.

To return a jewelry item bought online, you have two options. You can take the jewelry item to the service desk at any Costco location with relevant paperwork such as the receipt and IGI and GIA reports.

If your jewelry is of more than 1.00 carat or includes diamond solitaire rings, it will be sent to Costco’s fulfillment center which will verify the jewelry item first within 5 business days before you get a refund.

Alternatively, you can also return such items by contacting Costco customer support and mentioning that you would like to return a jewelry item.

Additionally, Costco will ask you for information such as your name, order confirmation number, phone number, the reason for the return, and the active status of the card you used for payment.

Once Costco has received the information, they will arrange for UPS to pick up your item and it will be shipped to their fulfillment center for verification.

You should expect to receive the refund amount to the debit/credit card you used for payment in up to 2 weeks’ time.

This method of return can take a bit longer than heading straight into a Costco warehouse due to shipping times and the time it takes to verify the product.

However, Costco’s policy assures that your refund will be processed once the verification is complete.

How Can You Return Jewelry To Costco In-Store?

How Can You Return Jewelry To Costco Warehouse?

To return your jewelry to Costco in-store, you should head to the service desk of any Costco warehouse (it doesn’t have to be the one you originally purchased from).

You must bring along any paperwork you received when you purchased the item such as the receipt and the IGI and GIA documents.

Once you provide these items, you will get a Jewelry Credit Memo and your item will be sent to be verified as authentic within 48 hours a Costco Graduate Gemologist will check its authenticity.

If the paperwork is in order and the item has been confirmed to be the same as previously bought, you will be refunded through the mode of payment you used at the time of purchase.

Can You Return Jewelry To Costco Without A Receipt?

According to Costco’s return policy, you do not necessarily need the receipt to be able to return jewelry items. However, you must have your membership card and the payment card you used for the purchase.

Costco can use these as alternatives to the receipt to track and verify your purchase.

Note that Costco will not process a return without the relevant documents such as the IGI and GIA reports, particularly for jewelry items that are 1.00 carat or more.

Can You Return Damaged Jewelry Items To Costco?

If you have damaged your jewelry or received damaged goods from Costco, you should take your item (and the relevant documents you received) to the customer service counter in any Costco warehouse.

Your chances of getting a refund may depend on whether the damage was done before or after your purchase, with the store manager ultimately making the final decision.

You will not receive a refund at all if you do not provide the IGI and/or GIA documents from your purchase.

If you simply want your jewelry repaired, you will have to visit another store as Costco does not provide a jewelry repair or cleaning service.

It is recommended that you purchase insurance with your jewelry to cover unfortunate incidents such as loss, damage, or theft of jewelry.

However, watch repairs do come under Costco’s Customer Satisfaction policy so Costco will attempt to have your watch repaired, replaced, or refunded (at a cost) should your product require it.

You will need to provide your receipt/documents with your watch when you request this service at the Customer Services counter.

How Does Jewelry Return At Costco Work For Non-Members?

Costco’s return policy is different for non-members, so if you received jewelry from Costco as a gift and want to return it, the individual with a membership who purchased the item will have to do it.

Note that Costco does not provide gift receipts, gift cards, or store credit for items purchased by non-members.

Because of this, your only option for returning jewelry as a non-member is to ask the Costco member who purchased the jewelry originally.

Conclusion

You can return jewelry to Costco as long as you are a member and you provide the relevant documents you received with your purchase. Any jewelry which is 1.00ct or over will require its IGI and/or GIA documents and need to be sent for verification before your refund can be processed. This can take up to 48 hours if your return is processed in-store, or up to 2 weeks for online returns.
