Does Wayfair Price Match? (All You Need to Know)

Wayfair generally has great prices, on everything from furniture to fixtures, but sometimes, a different website might have the same item for even less.

If you’re a savvy shopper, you might cross-reference other sites to see if they offer the same items at a lower price, but what if you find one that does? Does Wayfair price match with other sites, including competitors like Amazon or HomeGoods? If you’d like to find out, keep reading!

Does Wayfair Price Match in [currentyear]?

Wayfair does not price match with competitors in [currentyear]. However, Wayfair does price match with its sister websites, Joss & Main, AllModern, Birch Lane, and Perigold. The easiest way to get that price match price is to call in your order with Wayfair’s customer service, though you can get a price adjustment after the fact.

To learn more about Wayfair’s price match and price adjustment policies, why Wayfair shows different prices than its sister brands, and even whether Overstock price matches Wayfair, read on!

Does Wayfair Offer Price Adjustments?

Wayfair does not offer price adjustments (or price matches) with its competitors, but it does with its sister brands, AllModern, Joss & Main, Birch Lane, and Perigold.

To get the price match or price adjustment, you will have to call customer service and either place your order over the phone or have the price adjusted.

You have up to seven days from the date of purchase to get a price adjustment, and unfortunately, you can’t get an adjustment on Open Box or clearance items.

Simply call up Wayfair customer service and request the price adjustment (though it might be useful to have both products on your computer screen when you call).

Wayfair should honor the price adjustment, and if so, they will refund the difference either in the form of store credit or back into the card you used to make the purchase.

For price matches, before you order, call customer service and say you’d like to purchase an item, but you saw it for cheaper on one of the sister websites.

The representative will very likely honor the price match, and sell the item to you for the lesser price.

Why Does Wayfair Show Different Prices?

You might be wondering why Wayfair and its sister sites show the exact same items, sometimes under different brand names and for different prices.

In fact, Clark.com was wondering this, and reached out to Wayfair and received this response:

“Our retail sites are designed to offer distinctly different shopping experiences that address the preferences of different market segments.

“Each of our brands run their merchandising and pricing independently to create a unique brand experience.”

So, Wayfair passes the buck onto the individual suppliers, but it does make sense that Wayfair would represent an item a certain way, versus Perigold, which is more upscale.

In creating and upholding that upscale environment, the supplier would want to choose different images and even use different names for the same chair or couch.

Ultimately, the savviest shopper would cross-reference all the Wayfair family of sites, just to make sure there isn’t a specific item available, and at a lower cost.

How Does Wayfair Pricing Work?

How Does Wayfair Pricing Work?

Before I can get into how Wayfair pricing works, I have to go over how Wayfair is structured.

Wayfair operates mainly on a drop-ship model, where 70 to 80 percent of the merchandise on its website is not housed by the company itself.

Instead, it’s housed by the suppliers themselves, and they have partnered with the company to sell their merchandise on Wayfair’s global marketplace.

According to Vox, Wayfair actually sets the prices on items, and when a customer makes a purchase, Wayfair then buys the item from the supplier.

Afterward, the supplier ships the item to the customer. This enables Wayfair to charge less, especially when management has negotiated lower prices from the supplier.

Thanks to an “automated algorithm,” the prices change on Wayfair daily, with the algorithm evaluating “factors such as seasonal effects and competition…”

Does Overstock Price Match Wayfair?

As a matter of fact, while Wayfair does not price match Overstock, Overstock does price match Wayfair.

All you have to do is join Club O for $19.95 a year (or for free if you are in the military, are a first responder, a teacher, or student).

You have to make the price match within seven days of purchase, and it’s limited to three items per month.

Overstock also price matches with Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and Walmart, among others.

Can You Return Wayfair Items?

If you didn’t get the price match or price adjustment that you wanted, you might be wondering if you can just return the item.

Well, you can return purchases, as long as you do so within 30 days of the delivery date.

However, unless the item arrived damaged or defective, the customer is on the hook for the return shipping, which will be deducted from your refund.

Conclusion

Wayfair does not price match with competitors, like Overstock does, but it does price match and price adjust with its sister brands.

You’ll have to get on the phone to get your price match or price adjustment, but considering the difference in prices can be upwards of $50, it’s well worth the effort.
