FedEx’s signature release form is a legal document that gives FedEx permission to leave packages at a residence or business without anyone needing to sign for the packages.

What Is the Purpose of FedEx’s Signature Release Form?

FedEx’s signature release form is designed to make package deliveries easier and more secure.

By having this document on file, FedEx is able to release packages that would otherwise have to be held at a location for customer pick up or redelivered when the customer is home.

How Does FedEx’s Signature Release Form Work?

How Does FedEx’s Signature Release Form Work?

After completing the signature release form, attach the document to the front door of your residence or business before 8:00 AM on the day of delivery.

As long as the form is completed correctly and signed, the FedEx courier will deliver the package to a secure location.

That said, company policy states that the driver has the right to deliver at their discretion based on an assessment of their personal security and the security of FedEx’s property.

In other words, completing the signature release form doesn’t guarantee that FedEx will deliver your package.

If the driver determines that it’s unsafe to deliver the package, they may hold onto it and leave a door tag instead.

Does FedEx’s Signature Release Form Always Work?

While FedEx’s signature release form is helpful in ensuring that most packages get delivered, it doesn’t work for every package.

Some FedEx packages require a direct signature from someone at the address, while others require an adult signature.

In both of these cases, the signature release form isn’t sufficient for delivery. Indeed, the form only works for packages that require an indirect signature.

To check what kind of signature your package requires, log into the FedEx Delivery Manager.
