Does Amazon Accept Google Pay? (All You Need To Know)

Google Pay is a popular digital wallet platform developed by Google and used for contactless purchases on Android mobile devices. You can use Google Pay in-person, in-app, or online, making it an easy way to pay on the go.

If you use a digital wallet, you may be curious does Amazon accept Google Pay? I was intrigued by this idea too, so I did my research, and here’s what I found about Google Pay on Amazon.

Does Amazon Accept Google Pay?

Unfortunately, Amazon does not accept Google Pay because the e-commerce giant is not currently compatible with this digital wallet. Amazon has its own virtual wallet and stores payment information directly in an Amazon account, so if you add the same cards or bank account to Amazon Pay, it’s similar to Google Pay.

If you want to know more about Google Pay, why Amazon doesn’t accept it, and other ways you can pay on Amazon, then keep reading!

Why Doesn’t Amazon Take Google Pay?

Accepted Amazon payment methods do not include Google Pay, and one reason is that Amazon would lose a lot of valuable data by taking this payment platform.

Of course, Amazon also avoids taking Google Pay because the retail giant has its own digital wallet program called Amazon Pay.

If you think about it, Amazon Pay and Google Pay are essential competitors, so it makes sense that Amazon doesn’t take this mobile wallet for Android.

Also, Google Pay is primarily designed to support contactless payments at thousands of in-person stores and restaurants.

Because Amazon is an online business, Google Pay is less relevant, especially when Amazon already has a virtual wallet solution.

Will Amazon Take Google Pay In the Future?

Currently, there is no news on whether Amazon will accept Google Pay in the future.

Not only has Amazon not publicized any plans to use Google Pay, but it also seems unlikely because the e-commerce retailer will continue focusing on its own virtual wallet solution.

Amazon Pay is the top priority for Amazon, as it’s a welcome alternative to Google Pay and similar programs.

Amazon has invested substantial resources into Amazon Pay, and it’s safe to say the company wants its online payment processing service to be more successful than competitors like Google Pay.

Is Amazon Pay Different From Google Pay?

Is Amazon Pay Different From Google Pay?

With no plans for Amazon to take Google Pay, many regular online shoppers are opting to use Amazon Pay.

These two payment programs share some similarities in terms of supporting fast digital payments, but they are owned by different companies and have different compatibility requirements.

While Google Pay requires a mobile app, Amazon Pay is linked directly to Amazon.com information. What’s great about Amazon Pay as a payment option is there’s no separate signup or app required for Amazon account holders.

Amazon Pay automatically links credit/debit cards to the payment option, so as long as you have an Amazon account with saved payment information, you can get started.

When shopping on a site that supports Amazon Pay, just click that option and proceed with payment as it displays on your screen.

The nice thing about Amazon Pay is that it automatically fills in your billing/shipping information, so you can enjoy a faster checkout experience on many other sites, just like you would with PayPal.

What Are Amazon Payment Methods?

Although you won’t see Google Pay pop up as a payment option on Amazon, there are a lot of other secure ways to pay.

Most importantly, Amazon takes all major credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, Diner’s Club (U.S. billing addresses only), JCB, NYCE, and STAR.

The Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card, Amazon Store Card, and Amazon Secured Card can be used along with gift cards.

Other payment options accepted by Amazon include China UnionPay credit cards and prepaid credit or gift cards from Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

Certain government and employer programs are also accepted to pay for eligible items on Amazon, including SNAP EBT, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), and Health Savings Accounts (HSA).

What Stores Accept Google Pay?

Google Pay may be a no-go on Amazon, but you can use this virtual wallet in stores with a contactless payment option.

Remember, Google Pay requires an NFC POS terminal and a compatible device. If you’re all set up, you can use Google Pay at stores like American Eagles Outfitters, Foot Locker, Macy’s, and McDonald’s.

Actually, it’s easy to see where you can use Google Pay, as nearby stores show up in the app.

Look for the “Use Google Pay Nearby” display on your Google Pay account to see the nearest Starbucks or supermarket that takes this payment method.
