How Do Cash Payments Through DoorDash Orders Work?

When DoorDashers were able to accept cash for deliveries, DoorDash would inform the driver that it was a “Cash on Delivery” order.

After receiving the notification, a DoorDasher had the choice to accept or decline the order without their decision affecting their acceptance rate.

Then, when the DoorDasher delivered the food, they collected the cash payment from the customer.

That said, the cash a DoorDash delivery driver collected was theirs to keep, and the amount was deducted from their next scheduled direct deposit transfer.

What Happened If Your DoorDasher Didn’t Have Enough Change?

When DoorDash allowed cash payments, there were procedures to handle situations where delivery drivers didn’t have enough change when accepting the order.

That said, when a DoorDasher didn’t have enough change, they still gave the customer the order. However, the DoorDasher wasn’t allowed to collect the payment upon delivery.

Instead, they had to select “Issue Collecting Cash Payment” in the Dasher mobile app and indicate that they didn’t have enough change.

Then, DoorDash would pay the delivery driver the base pay for the order, and their Completion Rating was not affected.
