Does Lowe’s Have Layaway? (Try this instead)

Layaway is an increasingly popular payment method that allows customers to leave a deposit on an item and pay for it later or pay it off in installments. Although this is useful for expensive items like household appliances, not all stores offer layaway.

As a store that sells many high-value items like appliances and building materials, you may be wondering, does Lowe’s have layaway? Here’s what I found about the topic in my research!

Does Lowe’s Offer Layaway?

Unfortunately, layaway is not available at Lowe’s. However, several other payment methods are available that allow you to pay off high-value items over time at Lowe’s, like its six-month special financing option and lease-to-own program.

If you’d like to find out more about the other long-term payment options available at Lowe’s, such as Lowe’s credit card and its six-month special financing, keep reading!

What Is Lowe’s Six-Month Special Financing?

Although Lowe’s doesn’t offer layaway, it does offer special financing on expensive items for Lowe’s Advantage Cardholders.

That said, the Lowe’s Advantage Card is an in-house store credit card.

As well as allowing holders to pay for items in installments, with a Lowe’s Advantage Card, customers can also take advantage of benefits like 5% discounts in-store and online. However, you cannot combine benefits.

Additionally, Lowe’s Advantage Cardholders can enjoy six-month special financing on items over $299 on purchases made with their Lowe’s card.

Furthermore, to apply for a Lowe’s Advantage Card, you must provide your Individual Taxpayer Identification Number or your Social Security number.

Like other in-house retail credit cards, you can only use the Lowe’s Advantage Card on Lowe’s website or in Lowe’s stores.

Does Lowe’s Six-Month Special Financing Have Interest?

As long as you pay for your purchase in full in six months, there’s no added interest when you use Lowe’s six-month special financing.

With that, interest will only be charged to your account if you fail to pay in full within six months.

What Credit Score Do You Need For a Lowe’s Advantage Card?

What Credit Score Do You Need For A Lowe's Advantage Card?

You need to have a ‘fair’ credit score of at least 620 to apply for a Lowe’s Advantage Card.

With that, the Lowe’s Advantage Card is considered one of the more difficult cards to apply for as it requires a reasonably high credit score.

If you don’t have the credit score required to get a Lowe’s Advantage Card, but you still want the option of paying your items off over time, Lowe’s lease-to-own program may be more suitable for you.

What Is Lowe’s Lease-To-Own Program?

If you don’t have the credit score required for a Lowe’s store card, lease-to-own is another option to consider.

That said, Lowe’s lease-to-own program is a lease-purchase option to help you pay off the items you need today with no credit check required.

However, you will not own any items purchased through this program until you have fully paid them off over the maximum period of 12 months.

Also, the initial payment required is $79, and the maximum approval amount is $2,500.

Fortunately, Lowe’s lease-to-own program is available at most Lowe’s locations. However, it’s currently unavailable in Minnesota, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Vermont.

To purchase items through lease-to-own, you must be 18 years old, have a Social Security number, and have a credit or debit card.

How Do You Apply For Lowe’s Lease-To-Own Program?

If you want to apply for Lowe’s lease-to-own program, there are several ways to do so, including:

  • Apply online or simply text ‘LOWES’ to 57597
  • Visit a participating Lowe’s store
  • Make the initial $79 payment and head to checkout

What Items Are Available Through Lowe’s Lease-To-Own Program?

Sadly, not all items at Lowe’s are available for lease-to-own. With that, these items are leasable at Lowe’s:

  • Home appliances
  • Seasonal and outdoor items
  • Power tools
  • Home Decor
  • Lighting

On the other hand, the following items are not leasable at Lowe’s:

  • Perishable and consumable items like fertilizer and fuel
  • Permanently installed items, including carpet and tiles
  • Service-related purchases such as delivery and haul-away
