Target does accept Afterpay as valid payment in 2024. However, it’s only available in the US through the Target app and Target.com. Unfortunately, Target does not accept Afterpay in-store in the US. However, Target locations in New Zealand and Australia accept Afterpay both in-store and online.
If you want to understand how to use Afterpay online with Target, why Afterpay isn’t accepted in-store with US Target stores any longer, and more, then keep reading!
Does Target Accept Afterpay in the US?
Fortunately, US Target stores do accept Afterpay.
Previously, US Target stores were accepting Afterpay in-store and online. However, Target now only accepts Afterpay payments through Target.com, and the Target app.
Unfortunately, Target has moved to other buy-now-pay-later platforms that the company allows in-store, so it no longer needs to use Afterpay in-store.
Can You Use Afterpay in Store at Target?
Currently, in Australia and New Zealand, you can use Afterpay in-store at any Target location. Unfortunately, however, you can no longer use Afterpay in the US at Target stores.
How Do I Use Afterpay at Target Online?
Fortunately, it’s a simple process to use Afterpay online through Target. You can do so by using the Afterpay app, or by using the Afterpay card you can receive through the app.
To proceed with Afterpay online through Target, simply proceed to check out once you are done shopping. After you proceed to checkout, select Afterpay as your payment method.
If you have the Afterpay card, you don’t have to log in to your account or go through any other steps. Rather, you just pay with the card like any other credit or debit card.
However, if you are using the app as your payment method, after you select Afterpay, you will need to log in to your account or create one.
If you already have an active Afterpay account, all you have to do is log in to your account, either on the app or through Afterpay.com.
After you log in, you will be able to complete your transaction.
If you don’t have an active account with Afterpay, then your next step will be to create one.
If you need to create an Afterpay account, Target will present you with prompts during your check out to help create an account.
All you need to do is follow the prompts that Target presents and at the end. Once you have finalized your transactions, and you don’t see any long forms, then you were approved.
One thing to note, however, to qualify for Afterpay, is that you must be at least eighteen years of age with a valid form of a credit or debit card.
A valid form of a credit or debit card does not include an Afterpay card. You can apply for and receive an Afterpay card once you have an active account.
However, you must have some other form of a credit or debit card, prior to applying for Afterpay, to be approved for Afterpay.
Another thing to note in order to qualify for Australian Afterpay is that you must currently live in Australia.
Does Target Have an Afterpay Limit?
Unfortunately, Target does have an Afterpay limit. The limit applies to in-store and online purchases in the US, New Zealand, and Australia.
To use Afterpay online, you have to spend a minimum of $1, and you can spend up to a maximum of $1,000.
Obviously, if you are buying an item, and needing to use Afterpay, you will reach the $1 minimum for online use.
However, you should be careful, because if you exceed the $1,000 limit, you will not be able to use Afterpay when checking out.
In store, the minimum you must spend to be able to use Afterpay is $100, and the maximum remains $1,000.
If you are wanting to use Afterpay in-store, you may not reach the $100 minimum easily.
You will want to make sure you are keeping track of what you’re spending, and if it will reach the minimum.
However, you also have to be careful that you don’t exceed the $1,000 limit.
Are There Items Not Available with Afterpay?
Target does not accept the following items with Afterpay:
- Alcoholic beverages
- Cold, allergy, and digestive health treatments

If you want to buy any of these items, you will not be able to select Afterpay when you check out.
