When Does Verizon Drug Test?

When Does Verizon Drug Test?

Even though Verizon changed its policy in 2018 to be more lenient with drug use, there are certain situations where you could be drug tested, including the following:

  • If you’re suspected to be under the influence of drugs while at work, which could include you having slurred speech, being incoherent, appearing to be under the influence, or smelling like weed.
  • Talking about drugs at work and admitting to using drugs, either before coming to work or during your time off.
  • If you’ve gotten into an accident while at work, you’re almost guaranteed to be drug tested as part of Workers’ Compensation. A failed drug test will mean a claim denial.

What Type of Drug Test Does Verizon Administer?

If there is a drug test involved for Verizon, the company will perform a urine drug test, which usually involves going to a lab around your location where you will be given a specimen cup for your urine.

In these situations, you can expect the results within a week, although the time it takes to get the results back can vary by location and by the business of the lab at that time.

What Drugs Would Verizon Look for During a Drug Test?

When you’ve been asked by Verizon to take a drug test for some reason, the company will only look for the drugs most commonly used, such as the following:

  • Alcohol
  • Weed
  • Opiates
  • Amphetamines

However, it’s always possible that other drugs could be detected, and there is a chance a more extensive drug panel could be run if it’s for Workers’ Compensation claims.

You cannot be charged with a crime just for failing a drug test as part of employment, but you can be fired for a positive drug test in certain situations.

Additionally, if you’ve failed a drug test and have injured someone as a result, then the drug test could come up during a civil lawsuit and could lead you to be liable for any damages as a result.

However, there are requirements when it comes to a drug test being admissible in court during a trial, so even in a civil lawsuit, it’s not guaranteed to be used against you.

Can You Fail a Drug Test for Prescription Drugs at Verizon?

As long as you bring in your prescription medications when you take the drug test, it will not be considered a failed test if you have those medications in your system (i.e opiates).

However, if you don’t have proof of a valid prescription for the type of drug you failed for and the bottle it was in (such as opiates like Percocet), then it will count as a failed test.
