Venmo is gaining popularity among younger age groups as an app that simplifies money-sharing and allows users to make contactless payments at retail stores.
Since Walmart is one of the largest retailers in the U.S. and is visited by thousands of people every day, you may be wondering if Walmart accepts Venmo. Here is what I’ve found out!
Does Walmart Accept Venmo?
Walmart accepts Venmo as a payment option. To pay in-store, you should install the Venmo app and scan the QR code at the self-checkout counter. You can use Venmo online by selecting PayPal at checkout and then picking Venmo from the PayPal page.

How Can You Pay With Venmo At Walmart In-Store?
To use Venmo to pay for your purchases at Walmart stores, you need to first install the Venmo application on your phone and set up your Venmo account by following these instructions.
Since Walmart stores have to opt-in to using Venmo, you should first contact your nearby Walmart store and ask whether they will accept Venmo as a payment method.
You can use the Walmart Store Finder to get the contact number and open hours of a local store.
Once you’re at the store, you should head over to the checkout counter and let the employee know that you will be paying using Venmo.
After that, there are two ways in which you can make the payment.
The store employee may process your order and show you a QR code to scan for making the payment. Open the Venmo app and tap on the ‘Scan’ button to read the QR code using your phone.
You will be prompted to confirm if you want to make this purchase. Once you have done so, the transaction will take place and your Venmo account balance will be used to pay for your purchase automatically.
Alternatively, the store employee may ask you to show the Venmo QR code on your app which they will scan to complete the transaction. You can bring this up by tapping on “Show to Pay” in your Venmo app and holding out the QR code for the employee to scan.
Once the QR code is scanned, the transaction will go through and you will have made the payment for your purchase through Venmo.
How Can You Pay With Venmo At Walmart Online?
There are several ways in which you can make payments using Venmo on walmart.com.
If you’re browsing for items on walmart.com through your preferred mobile web browser (customers have reported that this works on iOS with Safari and on Android with Chrome), you should look for the PayPal option on the checkout page.
Once you’ve selected PayPal, you will be redirected to PayPal’s website to process the payment. On this page, you should look for the Venmo payment option and tap on it to make your purchase through Venmo.
If you find the Venmo payment option, you can then enter your details and proceed to complete the transaction. However, if you do not find the Venmo option, you could either try a different web browser or use the Venmo app.
Note that this only works on mobile phones and not on computers, according to Venmo’s official FAQs. You can troubleshoot other issues with the payment by reading these guidelines.
Alternatively, you could use the Venmo app directly to browse for items on walmart.com. To do this, you will have to opt-in first and enable in-app transactions. However, this service is only available in a limited number of regions in the U.S.
