How Many Times Will Amazon Attempt Delivery? (Full Guide)

If you’re anything like me, you order everything from notebooks to laundry bags on Amazon. Given the sheer amount of stuff I order from the eCommerce giant, I’m always waiting for another package to arrive.

Most of the time, deliveries happen without hiccups; however, there are instances where Amazon makes a delivery attempt but doesn’t drop off the package. In this article, I’ll look at delivery attempts and how many Amazon makes!

How Many Times Will Amazon Attempt Delivery In [currentyear]?

Amazon will make up to three delivery attempts on three consecutive days for expensive packages or those requiring a signature in [currentyear]. Usually, Amazon emails customers to inform them that a delivery attempt has been made and that the recipient needs to sign for a  package. Amazon may also call customers before a delivery attempt.

To learn more about Amazon’s delivery attempt policy, make sure you read all of the ways to the end of this article!

How Do Amazon Deliveries Work?

Amazon delivers packages between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM local time. Most of the time, drivers simply leave packages in a secure location without informing the customer.

Still, an Amazon driver may knock, ring the doorbell, or directly contact you to inform you of delivery.

If they decide to contact you, they will only do so between the hours of 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM local time unless your delivery is scheduled or requires a signature.

That said, such packages will not be left unless Amazon can contact you directly.

Also, packages will not be left if no secure location is available. If that’s the case, Amazon will send an email to the email address on file.

This email usually comes before delivery is attempted, but it’s possible to receive another email after the attempted delivery.

What Happens When Amazon Attempts A Delivery?

As mentioned in the previous section, Amazon drivers almost always drop off packages and move on to the next location without informing the customer.

Therefore, this could be called a “normal delivery.” In comparison, delivery attempts happen when the driver tries to drop off a package but can’t.

That said, this could be because a package needs a signature, or the driver couldn’t find a secure place to leave the item.

Still, if a driver cannot deliver a package, they will hold onto it and reattempt delivery the next day.

Will Amazon Attempt To Deliver Again?

Will Amazon Attempt To Deliver Again?

If Amazon can’t deliver your package on the first attempt, they will automatically try to deliver it again up to three more times.

Usually, the next delivery attempt comes the day after the originally scheduled delivery attempt.

If that’s inconvenient, you can select a redelivery date by clicking on the “Track Package” button beside the order in question under the “Your Orders” tab on the Amazon website.

Also, you can update your delivery preferences from this window to include instructions like “Call me when you arrive” or “Leave my package with the building manager.”

As you can imagine, leaving these kinds of instructions is helpful as they can cut down on the number of delivery attempts Amazon has to make.

Will Amazon Reattempt Delivery On The Same Day?

No, Amazon will not reattempt delivery on the same day. Instead, the next delivery attempt is made the day after the original effort.

Then, any subsequent delivery attempts are made on the three consecutive days following the original delivery attempt.

What Happens If I Miss The Third Amazon Delivery Attempt?

As mentioned previously, Amazon will make up to three delivery attempts.

If Amazon cannot get in touch with you and the third attempt is unsuccessful, then your package will be returned to Amazon for a refund.

Additionally, keep in mind that you’ll be refunded for the item(s), but not the shipping cost.

Conclusion

In most cases, you don’t need to worry about Amazon attempting deliveries. Most packages can be left in a secure location where you can collect them at your convenience.

However, if there’s no secure place to leave the package or if it requires a signature and Amazon can’t get in touch with you, the driver holds onto the package and reattempts delivery the next day.

Lastly, up to three redelivery attempts are possible before a package is returned.
