Target, one of the largest retail chains in the U.S., sells a wide range of computer products such as desktops, laptops, and other accessories in-store, online, and on the Target app.

Target accepts returns of unopened computers and laptops in-store and online within 30 days of purchase. Additionally, customers can return computers, iPads, and laptops within 60 days if they were purchased with a Target RedCard.

How Strict Is Target’s Computer Return Policy?
While the regular return policy for Target is 90 days for opened and unopened products, Target’s return policy for electronics is different and more strict.
Under this policy, computers, laptops, and accessories must be returned to the store within 30 days in unopened and unused condition for a full refund.
Additionally, you must also bring the original receipt of purchase to the store when you are returning the item.
Can I Return Used Computers To Target?
Unfortunately, opened electronic and entertainment items such as computers and laptops cannot be returned to Target.
However, these can be exchanged in-store for the same or other similar items.
Can I Return A Computer To Target Without A Receipt?
Since Target’s policy regarding the return of computers and laptops is quite strict, you can be denied a return by Target if you do not have the original receipt.
However, some workers have noted on online forums that this decision is left at the discretion of the individual store manager, who may occasionally offer exchanges.
Alternatively, you can return a computer to Target without the original receipt if you can provide an alternative proof of purchase.
Therefore, if you paid at Target using any of the following modes of payment, Target will be able to track and verify your purchase:
- Target RedCard
- Visa
- MasterCard
- American Express
- Discover
- Personal Check (you must bring a blank check)
- Target gift card (you must bring the card you used)
Note that you must bring the mode of payment with you to the store when returning your item. For items bought online, you can access the digital barcode or receipt from your Target.com account to prove your purchase.
If you paid using cash and are unable to provide any proof of purchase, you will be refunded with a ‘merchandise return card’. This is only valid in-store at Target, and cannot be redeemed online at Target.com.
Can I Return A Computer To Target After 30 Days?
You can return computers and laptops (including brands such as HP, Samsung, Asus, Lenovo, Chromebook, Acer, etc.) to Target after 30 days, but you will not receive a full refund.
Instead, you will be given the equivalent of the item’s lowest price in the last 30 days to a merchandise gift card, which can only be used in-store.
For some computer products such as those sold by Apple, you will have to adhere to different policies and may not be able to return the item at all after the stipulated return window.
Can I Return A Gifted Computer To Target?
You can return a computer you received as a gift to Target if you have a gift receipt or packing slip, but you will not receive a monetary refund and instead will be issued a Target GiftCard.
If a merchandise card was used to pay for any portion of the transaction, you will receive that portion of the refund in the form of a merchandise card.
Note that in-store returns using gift receipts cannot be processed the same day the item was purchased, so you will have to wait an additional day in case the person who gifted the computer to you bought it on the same day.

How Do I Return Computers Bought In A Target store?
You can return unopened computers, laptops, and similar products to any Target store for a full refund or exchange within 30 days with no stocking fees if you have the original receipt.
You will have to bring the original method of payment and a valid form of government-issued photo ID to make the return.
Head over to Target Guest Services in-store who will be able to assist you with your return. Alternatively, you can also schedule a return of your item by calling the Target Guest Services Team on 1-800-591-3869.
You will be refunded through the same payment method you used for the purchase. Here are typical waiting times for each:
- Third-party credit card – 1 to 3 days
- Target RedCard – 1 to 2 days
Note that requesting a Target refund through an Online Return Centre may take up to 5 days to process.
How Do I Return Computers Purchased On Target.com?
You can return computers purchased on Target.com to any nearby store by bringing along any of the following:
- The original receipt
- Barcode found in the Target app
- Target delivery or shipping confirmation email
- The original mode of payment
Alternatively, you can return computers through the mail by logging in to your Target.com account, selecting ‘Return’ and printing the return shipping label. You will have to pay for the return shipping fees unless Target made an error during shipping.
Certain items cannot be returned via mail. If this is the case for your item, you will be notified of this when you proceed to return it via Target.com.
How Do I Get A Longer Returns Window At Target For My Computer?
Target offers its Target RedCard holders an additional 30 days return window on almost all items including computers when used to purchase.
For example, if you bought a computer with your Target RedCard, you would have 60 days to return it to the store with the receipt for a full refund.
Additionally, if the computer or product you purchased was a Target-owned brand, you will have up to a year to return the item as long as it is sealed, unused and you have the receipt.
