Target helps its customers in a variety of ways such as by implementing a weekly markdown schedule in which different items are reduced in price on specific days of the week.
So if you’re looking to make the most of Target’s markdown policy and grab a few items at reduced prices, you may want to know about Target’s markdown schedule. Here is what I’ve found out about it!
Target Markdown Schedule
Target’s markdown schedule goes as follows. Monday: electronics, kid’s clothing. Tuesday: home essentials, women’s clothing, groceries. Wednesday: men’s clothing, health, beauty, furniture. Thursday: housewares, shoes, toys, decor. Friday: cosmetics, auto, hardware. Markdowns usually begin at a 30% reduction.

How Does Target’s Markdown Work?
Every week, Target marks down products from particular departments, reducing their price at the start by 30%.
After around 2-3 weeks, the price is dropped further by approximately 50% and if you’re willing to wait a few more weeks, the products are then marked down by 70%.
Additionally, you should research beforehand about the best-selling products to make sure you time your purchase right and receive the lowest possible price without the product selling out.
Note that the schedule may vary slightly from store to store, so keep an eye out for the small red markdown stickers along the aisles. Routine markdowns do not generally occur on Saturdays or Sundays.
Target’s week starts off by marking down items from these categories:
- Personal accessories
- Kids’ department and baby products
Items marked down in the electronics department include headphones, cameras, consoles, controllers, tablets, eReaders, and more.
After that, Target will drop the price of accessories such as purses, wallets, and hair ties.
For the kid’s department and baby products section, the items marked down include strollers, formula, pacifiers, clothing (including Cat and Jack), kids’ books, and stationery (i.e. writing equipment, etc.)
On Tuesday, the following categories are marked down:
- Domestic essentials
- Women’s Clothing
You can purchase domestic essentials such as paper towels, food storage, cleaning products, insects, and pest control. Target will also mark down women’s clothing including everyday garments and gym kits.
Additionally, Tuesday is the best day to get groceries as dry, frozen, and refrigerated foods are reduced in price, as are pet products (i.e. pet food, litter tray, treats, and toys).
On Wednesday, Target marks down these categories:
- Men’s Clothing
- Health and beauty
Wednesday is a busy day on the markdown schedule because Men’s clothing merchandise, including button-down shirts, jeans, sweatshirts, jogger pants, and pullover sweaters, are all lowered in price.
Target’s significant health and beauty department is marked down on Wednesdays as well, dropping the price of skincare, personal care, hair treatment, and other products and services.
Parents will be pleased to learn that diapers are also marked down on Wednesday as well.
Other than that, homeowners should consider shopping on Wednesday as lawn, garden items, and outdoor furniture are also marked down.
Thursday’s markdown focuses on these product categories:
- Sporting Goods
When it comes to housewares, appliances (juicers, blenders, toasters, etc.), cutlery, utensils, and other household goods are all marked down.
At the same time, lingerie, shoes, sporting goods, luggage (suitcases and hold-all bags), and decor items such as candles, cushions, and throws are all marked down on Wednesday as well.
The final day of markdowns takes place on Friday, with items from these categories reduced in price:
- Automotive products
Auto products include automotive cleaning wipes, all-purpose cleaners, wax, protectant, and car fresheners.
Price reductions are also applied to Target’s cosmetics, including on brands such as Wet n Wild, Maybelline, E.L.F, and L’Oreal.
Friday’s markdown also includes nails, cabinet knobs, hooks, tools, and pulls included in the hardware department.
Lastly, Jewelry items that are marked down include necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings.
What If I Miss Target’s Markdown?
If you’ve missed out on a cheaper deal, there is no need to panic. Target has a price adjustment guarantee covering customers who have purchased a product that dropped in price within 14 days.
Simply take your receipt or packing slip to any checkout lane in-store with proof of the new price, and you’ll be refunded the difference using the same method you used at the time of purchase.
Unfortunately, price adjustments cannot be made after the given time frame of 14 days or without valid proof of purchase.
