Verizon Kids Phones & Plans (Do They Have Them + Other FAQs)

If you have kids, then you might be thinking about getting them a cell phone and want to know whether there are Verizon kids phones and plans available.

Well, keep reading to find out everything I’ve discovered about Verizon kids phones and plans to see if it’s the right option for you.

Verizon Kids Phones & Plans In [currentyear]

Verizon offered a Just Kids Plan that allowed you to set up to 20 contacts for your child and it came with Verizon Smart Family Premium edition for free. However, Verizon has removed the Just Kids Plan from its lineup. Additionally, Verizon offers dumb phones, which are basic phones that will talk and text, and those are perfect for kids.

Do you want to know more about Verizon kids phones and plans, such as what’s the best first phone for a kid? If so, continue reading below to find out all of the important facts!

Does Verizon Offer a Kid-Friendly Phone?

Verizon offers basic phones, which are phones that don’t have all of the bells and whistles that regular smartphones have, which are the best option for a kid-friendly phone.

For example, the Kazuna eTalk basic phone is either $4 per month or you can purchase the phone for the full retail price of $79.99.

The Kyocera DuraXV Extreme is also another great option for a kid-friendly phone that is basic and will be a good choice for a first phone, especially if you have a younger child.

Furthermore, the Verizon basic phones available allow for both text messages and phone calls but don’t have many other abilities beyond that if you’re concerned.

In contrast, you also could choose a smartphone for your child if they are nearing teenage years, such as the Samsung Galaxy A50, which is pricier but it’s a smartphone with tons of features!

What Kid Smartwatches Work With Verizon?

Verizon offers the GizmoWatch 2, which is a great kid-friendly smartwatch that is specifically designed for kids and has a GPS locator, parental controls, and reminders.

In addition, there is a step tracker to help get your child into healthy habits early on, and there is a to-do list that is interactive and has fun rewards when the items are checked off the list.

The GizmoWatch 2 also allows you to put up to 10 contacts into the phone so your child can contact those people when needed through text, call, or even voice note capabilities.

Furthermore, this smartwatch is waterproof, easy to use, and uses the Verizon 4G LTE network exclusively, and the service plan will only cost you $10 per month!

Does Verizon Have a Child’s Plan?

Unfortunately, Verizon got rid of the Just Kids Plan, which it offered to customers on the old Unlimited plans, and it doesn’t appear Verizon replaced the Just Kids Plan with a new option.

The Just Kids Plan allowed you to pay between $25 and $50 per month depending on the number of lines you had on your account and came with features such as:

  • 480p streaming
  • Unlimited text and talk for up to 20 parent-approved contacts
  • 5G and 4G LTE data with speeds up to 5Mbps
  • Verizon Smart Family Premium

However, since the Just Kids Plan is no longer available, you’ll have to purchase the Verizon Smart Family service to help protect your child while they are on their phone.

What is Verizon Smart Family?

What is Verizon Smart Family?

Verizon Smart Family is a service from Verizon that allows you to set up parental controls on your child’s smartphone or tablet to keep them safe.

Additionally, with the Smart Family app, you can filter content that your child sees on their device while browsing the web and also will have controls such as:

  • Supervising screen time
  • Monitor and limit calls
  • Monitor and limit purchases
  • Monitor and limit texts
  • Monitor all web activity
  • Monitor app activity
  • Pause your internet
  • Location tracking (Premium version)
  • Check-in ability (Premium version)
  • Pick Me Up feature

How Much Does Verizon Smart Family Cost?

Verizon Smart Family will cost $4.99 per month for the Basic version and $9.99 per month for the Premium version.

However, if you have the Just Kids Plan, you’ll get Verizon Smart Family Premium for free!

Also, if you’re using the Basic version and want to upgrade to Premium, you can do so by going into the Settings within the app and choosing to go to Premium.

What Are The Eligibility Requirements For Verizon Smart Family?

If you want to get Verizon Smart Family, you’ll need to have 10 or fewer lines on a standard account, which means no business or prepaid account.

Furthermore, you’ll need to have an Android device that has higher than Android 5.0 installed or an Apple device that is iOS version 10 or newer.

Also, you can see if you’re eligible by logging in to your My Verizon account, and then going to the “Add-ons and Apps” section. If you see the option, then you’re eligible to use it.

Do You Need to Download the Verizon Smart Family Companion App?

While you don’t need to download the Verizon Smart Family Companion app onto your child’s device, it’s the best option since you’ll have limited features and functionality without it.

For example, if you don’t download the Smart Family Companion app to your child’s device, you won’t be able to set up the content filters, set time restrictions, or pause the internet.

On top of that, you cannot set up the location alerts or use the location check-in service without the app on your child’s device.

However, if you choose not to download the Smart Family Companion app onto your child’s device you can still access network location, set purchase limits, set call and text limits.

Furthermore, you’ll also be able to see the text activity and call activity, and also set up the time restrictions for calling, texting, and using data.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, Verizon got rid of their Just Kids Plan, but if you already had this plan on your account, you can still use it.

Verizon offers a variety of basic phones with no bells and whistles, which are perfect for kids, and also offers kid smartwatches.

Additionally, you can sign up for Verizon Smart Family, which allows you to set parental controls on your child’s device and it works for both iOS and Android devices, including tablets.
