What Is Facebook Inbox? (All You Need To Know)

Facebook has shifted and changed a lot over the years. Originally, this social media website was simply a directory for college students. However, it is currently one of the largest social networking sites in the world.

With this huge growth has come many new changes – including to Facebook inbox. Let’s take a look at this feature and how it has changed.

What Is Facebook Inbox?

When Facebook first allowed for private messaging, all messaging was done directly on the website. The messages would end up in an inbox, similarly to an email. However, Facebook has since moved all of its messaging features over to Messenger, which is a separate app and website run by the same company.

For more information on this change and how Messenger works, keep reading.

Where is the Facebook Inbox?

To see your page’s inbox, you first need to go to your page. To do so, go to Facebook and tap the top right corner. Then, you can click pages. Once you’re on your Page, you can click the inbox at the top of the Page.

Normal profiles do not have an inbox. Instead, the Messenger mobile app and Messenger website performs this function. However, individual pages do have their own messenger (or inbox).

All inboxes and messenger messages are integrated across the website and app. Therefore, they are generally considered to be the same thing.

How Do You Inbox Someone on Facebook?

Facebook no longer has an “inbox” necessarily. Instead, they now use messenger for all private messages.

If you want to send someone a private message, you will need to utilize the messenger app.

Luckily, doing so is pretty straightforward. Firstly, you’ll want to click at the top of Facebook to open your messages.

Then, click “New Message” to start a new conversation. Type the name of the person you want to message until they pop up as an option.

Select the person you want to send the message to and type in your message. Next, you simply press send and wait for the other person to reply.

Remember, all messaging on Facebook is now handled through the messenger app. Therefore, if you want to message someone on your phone, you’ll need to download the messenger app and use that.

How Do I Check My Inbox on Facebook?

How Do I Check My Inbox on Facebook?

Currently, all Facebook messages are handled through Facebook Messenger. Therefore, there is no longer an inbox on Facebook.

Instead, you’ll need to use the Messenger app or website to access your messages.

To access messenger, we recommend downloading the messenger app on your phone. However, you can also access messenger on a desktop.

To do so, click the messenger icon in the top right corner of the screen.

If you have a notification message, you can also click it to get taken to your messenger app. If you don’t have an app, you’ll be asked to download the app after clicking the icon or notification.

How Do I Find Hidden Messages on Facebook?

On Facebook, there are actually two message folders. In your primary folder, you’ll find all the messages that Facebook thinks you want to see.

However, there is a second folder where Facebook hides messages it thinks you don’t want to see.

Typically, these messages are sent by those you aren’t friends with. Therefore, if you are expecting to receive a message from someone that isn’t a friend of yours on Facebook, then you can expect it to end up in your other folder.

To find this folder, you do have to go through a few extra steps.

On a laptop, click the messenger icon from the top corner. Next, click options, which should appear as three dots. Now, choose message requests from the settings.

This should show you a list of messages from people you haven’t contacted previously or become friends with. In this age, there could be tons of different messages there, as many people use Facebook.

Typically, these messages are organized from the most recent to the least recent.

On the mobile app, the directions are a bit different. You’ll need to open your Messenger app, as all messaging is done through this app. Next, click the profile picture and choose message requests.

There are two different categories that this folder is split into: “you may know” and “spam”. Of course, the spam folder only contains messages that may be spam. If you want to make sure, check.

On Android and Apple iphones, the procedure is the same.

Can You Recover Deleted Facebook Messages?

There are a few different ways you can recover deleted Facebook messages. However, most of these are a matter of chance. Therefore, you won’t be able to recover all messages in all likelihood.

First, you can check your archived conversations, which is where most messages go when you believe that you’ve deleted them. Usually, you can do this by searching for the other person on Messenger.

Then, when you click the person’s name, your previous conversation may appear.

In the case that it doesn’t, you can try a different method. If the message was deleted, it only does so for you. Therefore, you may want to try asking the other person for the messages.

If you have email notifications turned on, you may find Facebook messages in your email. In this case, clicking the notification will often bring the message back up.

If you have an Android device, you may be able to view the deleted messages in your cache. You can access this using an Android file manager.

If you don’t have a file manager installed, you can find quite a few options on the app store.

Conclusion

Once upon a time, all Facebook messages would end up in an inbox on Facebook. However, that isn’t quite how things work today. Instead, Facebook utilizes Messenger for most of their messaging features.

If you want to check your Facebook messages, you’ll need to use Messenger instead. Luckily, Messenger uses the same login information as Facebook, so you don’t have to create a new account.

On mobile devices, Messenger is an app you will have to download. It is completely separate from the Facebook app.
