The biggest Amazon warehouse in the U.S. is in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. The 3.6 million-square-foot fulfillment center has five stories of highly automated warehouse facilities and 80,000 square feet of offices. On average, an Amazon fulfillment is 800,000 square feet in size, so the Mt. Juliet warehouse is 4.5 x the average size.

Fast-forward to today and Amazon’s sortable fulfillment centers are 800,000 square feet on average, while non-sortable fulfillment centers are 600,000 square feet up to 1 million square feet.

There are numerous Amazon warehouses under construction around the world, and generally, they are getting bigger, with multi-million square footage to further enhance the company’s facilities.

The company is building its largest distribution center yet near the Colorado Springs Airport. This $370 million project will top out at 4 million square feet in the coming years.

Amazon has several warehouse locations in the U.K., but the largest is in Tilbury on London’s outskirts. 

The Amazon LCY2 Distribution Centre is two million square feet, and the second facility was was built close to London.

Thousands of robots use QR codes to navigate the factory floor and assist with the speedy fulfillment processes Amazon is known for. Warehouse workers finalize the orders for shipment throughout the U.K. and the rest of Europe.

Amazon has another large U.K. facility covering 1 million square feet at Dunfermline in Scotland.

Amazon’s largest warehouses in Asia can be found in India, where there are 60 fulfillment centers in 15 states. Collectively, this fulfillment network makes up more than 8 million square feet.

Amazon also has warehouses in China, Japan, Pakistan, and Singapore. These sortable fulfillment centers are usually 800,000 square feet, not just in the U.S. but across Asia and Europe too.

Does Australia Have Large Amazon Warehouses?

Current Amazon fulfillment center locations in Australia include two in Moorebank, two in Dandenong South, one in Brisbane, and one in Perth.

These facilities give Amazon a footprint in four Australian states: New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and Western Australia.

Amazon has 110 fulfillment centers in the U.S. and 185 total centers around the world. These fulfillment centers are scattered across continents with locations in North America, the U.K., E.U., Asia, and Australia.

Amazon typically has at least 1,500 full-time associates in its fulfillment centers, regardless of location.

Some fulfillment centers are sortable, where staff pick, pack, and ship orders by hand with the help of Amazon Robotics. Larger items like furniture and sports equipment may be reserved for non-sortable fulfillment centers to help fulfill orders faster.
