Does Costco Offer Senior Discount On Membership? [Full Guide!]

There’s so much you can do with a Costco membership! It allows customers to access all the savings and services offered in Costco’s warehouses and online at Costco.com.

But, as a senior citizen, do you get a discount on your Costco membership? Here’s everything I could find.

Does Costco Offer Senior Discount On Membership?

Unfortunately, Costco does not offer discounted memberships for senior citizens. However, Costco does provide senior shopping hours (from 8:30 am – 10 am) for those over 60. Costco does run exclusive promotions on memberships for medical professionals, teachers, students, military service people, and veterans.

But, does Costco offer senior discounts elsewhere in its stores? Keep on reading to find out everything you need to know about Costco’s senior discount and membership policies.

Does Costco Offer Senior Discount On Products And Services?

Just as Costco does not offer a senior citizen discount on its membership, it also does not offer a senior discount on any of its products or services.

However, Costco currently provides senior citizen opening hours in most warehouses from 8:30 am, one hour before Costco opens to the general public.

While this is by no means an exclusive discount or deal, it does allow senior citizens to get the first choice on incredibly discounted products and services.

Additionally, if you would rather shop at a store that does offer a senior discount as standard, you can buy similar products to those on sale in Costco in stores such as:

  • Albertsons
  • Belk
  • Publix
  • Safeway
  • Walgreens

Does Costco Offer Discounted Memberships?

Costco does not offer any free or discounted memberships at all. This is because most of their profits come from Costco memberships, rather than wholesale products.

Plus, the annual fee of $60 a year for a Gold Star membership is often considered great value for money, because of the prices of the products you can buy when you are a member.

However, Costco sometimes runs an exclusive promotion on memberships for teachers, students, military service people, and medical professionals.

When a person from one of these groups joins as a new member, they will receive a Costco Shop Card! The amount will vary depending on which promotion you are eligible for.

What Benefits Do You Get With A Costco Membership?

The benefits you get as a Costco member will depend on which membership you apply for.

For example, with a Gold Star membership, you get to shop at all Costco warehouses, access the services available in-store, and order products that are available online at Costco.com.

With a Gold Star Executive membership, you get all of that, plus additional benefits, discounts, and an annual 2% reward on eligible Costco and Costco Travel purchases.

Additionally, if you are a frequent shopper at Walmart, you may be curious to know whether or not Walmart has a senior discount.

Conclusion:

Senior citizens cannot get a discount when they apply for a new Costco membership. This is because Costco does not offer free or discounted memberships as policy. There are still benefits of joining Costco as a senior citizen, though, which include the savings you get when you shop in-store or online, as well as their Senior Shopping Hours.

The only membership promotion that Costco currently offers is to eligible groups such as teachers and medical professionals. When they join as a new member, they can claim a Costco Shop Card.
