You need to open the app or website and navigate to the section on cuisine options, look for “Alcohol,” and then click it.
When you do this, you will see the restaurants available in your area that have alcohol available to order.
Grubhub doesn’t let you request delivery for alcohol by itself, so you will need to attach food to your order, with considerations for ratios in certain states, as mentioned previously.
After you’ve placed your order, you will need to have a valid form of ID ready for the driver to verify that you’re 21 or older.
Can Minors Get Alcohol From Grubhub?
Officially, minors can’t get alcohol off Grubhub, either as drivers or diners, because the company requires that anyone handling these types of orders be at least 21.
However, we’ve found many different instances of people saying that they managed to order alcohol from Grubhub, either because the driver didn’t know they had to verify, or for a similar reason.
If this happens, the penalty for handing alcohol to a minor will fall on the driver and not Grubhub, so they usually try to avoid doing this.
How Does Grubhub ID for Alcohol?
As we’ve stated above, sometimes Grubhub has a hard time verifying the age of diners who order alcohol.
To address this, Grubhub has come up with a more complex way to ID for alcohol before the driver can hand it over.
When your driver gets to your destination with alcohol, they will ask to see a valid form of picture ID, usually your driver’s license, and make sure that it’s you in the photo.
Your driver will also need to check if you have a fake ID by looking at things like whether the edges are smooth or whether the glue lines are bumpy.
They might also have a date on the app that tells them the latest someone would need to be born to be 21 at the time, and they will compare that to the date on the ID.
Grubhub says that drivers have to do this regardless of how old the diner looks, so you will need to have some ID ready as soon as you place the order no matter your age.
When you hand over the ID, the driver will use the app to scan it or manually enter your age if this doesn’t work.
Your driver will also ask you to verbally state your age and birth date, and they’ll also check whether the ID is expired.
If it’s expired, they’re not supposed to give you the alcohol, even if you’re not a minor.
Because of all the factors involved in this process, alcohol is not available for contactless delivery on Grubhub.
