How Much Does It Cost To Exchange a Propane Tank at Lowe’s?
On average, customers have to pay $19.97 to exchange their empty propane tank (even if it is old and dented) with a filled one at a Lowe’s store.
Note that this price may vary depending on the region you live in and whether there is a seasonal sale going on (when it will be cheaper to exchange a tank).
Along with that, if you can find valid coupons, the price of exchanging the tank can even go down to as low as $12.97.
Without any discounts, you’re paying about $5 to $6 per gallon to exchange your propane tank, which is slightly more expensive than simply refilling your tanks from other providers.
However, the accessibility of Lowe’s stores makes the exchange quite convenient and represents good value for money.
Which Propane Tanks Can Be Exchanged at Lowe’s?
You will be able to exchange any dual-valve propane tank at Lowe’s.
In exchange, you will receive a refilled propane tank of the same size, which will be a Blue Rhino propane tank in most Lowe’s stores.
How Do You Exchange Propane Tanks at Lowe’s?
You can follow these steps to easily get your empty propane tank exchanged for a filled one from Lowe’s:
- Take your old propane tank to any Lowe’s store that sells propane tanks and ask a member of staff for an exchange.
- Once you have paid for the exchange, you will receive a refilled Blue Rhino propane tank that has been cleaned, inspected, and leak-tested.
- Your exchanged propane tank will be filled to around 75% capacity and will be ready for grilling, heating, or any other purposes right away.
Note that propane tank exchanges cannot be completed online because of federal restrictions that prevent propane tanks from being sent via the post.
Why Doesn’t Lowe’s Refill Propane Tanks?
Lowe’s does not refill propane tanks because its stores do not have the suitable equipment required to fill propane gas at high pressures.
Along with that, not offering refill services means that Lowe’s can charge more for exchanges, thus earning more profit overall.
