Do you want to use a hotspot on your T-Mobile device but want to know if T-Mobile charges for a hotspot before you connect and begin using it?
If so, keep reading, as I have been researching this question and want to share everything I’ve discovered so that you can know everything about T-Mobile hotspot before you start using it!
Does T-Mobile Charge for Hotspot in 2023?
T-Mobile does not initially charge for a hotspot if you have a hotspot-capable phone and plan, but even the unlimited plans have restrictions on premium data speed. However, even when you go over your hotspot data, you’re not going to be charged for it, rather, you’ll be capped at either 2G or 3G speeds in 2023.
Do you want to know if you can purchase T-Mobile hotspot plans or have other questions you want to be answered? Well, don’t stop reading yet because I have more to share with you below!
Do You Have to Pay Extra for a T-Mobile Hotspot?
You don’t have to pay an extra fee to use a T-Mobile hotspot, but even with the Unlimited Plans, you’re going to be capped at a specific premium data speed for a hotspot.
For example, with the Magenta Max plan, you’ll be capped at 40 GB of premium hotspot data speed, and then you’ll be bumped to 3G speeds afterward, but it’s still unlimited data.
In contrast, the Magenta plan only has 5G premium hotspot data, and then you’ll be limited to 3G speeds, even though it’s considered to be unlimited.
What Happens If I Go Over My Hotspot Limit T-Mobile?
If you go over your hotspot limit, you will just be slowed down to 2G or 3G speeds due to data prioritization, but there are no overages or fees associated with going over your limit.
How Many Devices Can Connect to a T-Mobile Hotspot?
You can connect up to 10 additional devices to your T-Mobile hotspot, which means you can have your laptop, desktop, tablet, or other devices on your hotspot connection free of charge.
Therefore, a mobile hotspot is a great way to stay connected while you’re on the go, such as traveling and stopping at a park, or at a hotel where you don’t want to use the free WiFi.
Can You Add T-Mobile Hotspot Data?
There are a couple of T-Mobile data plans available that allow you to add even more premium hotspot data to your T-Mobile hotspot so that you don’t have to worry about slower speeds.
For example, you can get an additional 500MB of premium data for $5 per month per connected device if you have AutoPay set up on your account.
Also, there is a $10 per month plan per connected device if you have AutoPay set up where you can get 2 GB of high-speed data for your hotspot or unlimited high-speed data for wearables.
Are You Notified When You Reach a Hotspot Limit With T-Mobile?
T-Mobile will always notify you when you’ve used 80% of your premium data and will also notify you when you’ve reached 100% of your premium data.
Therefore, you can choose to purchase additional high-speed premium data for your hotspot at that time, or just use the unlimited data at a slower speed.
Where Does the T-Mobile Hotspot Work?
Your T-Mobile hotspot will work anywhere that you have service with T-Mobile, and you’ll get either 4G or 5G service depending on your location and coverage availability.
How Do I Set up a T-Mobile Hotspot?
If you want to use your T-Mobile phone as a hotspot, it’s easy to set up and turn on the feature, whether you have an iOS or Android device.
For example, if you have an iOS device and want to set up your T-Mobile hotspot, follow the steps below:
- Go into your phone “Settings”
- Select “Cellular Data”
- Select “Personal Hotspot”
- Toggle Personal Hotspot on by ensuring it lights up green
Also, you will be given a password that you can use if you want to tether other devices to your hotspot.
Additionally, it’s simple to set up your mobile hotspot on an Android device and you can do so by following these steps:
- Go to your phone “Settings”
- Select “Network & Internet”
- Select “Hotspot & Tethering”
- Turn on the WiFi hotspot by toggling the switch on
However, not all Android devices will have the same setup to enable your hotspot and may be labeled differently, but using the above steps should give you a general idea of where to look.
T-Mobile doesn’t charge for hotspots, but you’re given an allotment of premium hotspot data per month, which will vary depending on which plan you have.
Subsequently, once you’ve got over the premium hotspot data, you will be reduced to either 2G or 3G speeds, but will still have unlimited hotspot data at no charge.
