Walgreens has a consistent focus on improving the experience of its customers for their prescription needs.
Because of this, you might be wondering whether or not Walgreens delivers prescriptions to its customers. Here is what I discovered!
Does Walgreens Deliver Prescriptions?
Walgreens delivers prescriptions through 4 separate services. Express Delivery and Standard online shipping are free, and deliver prescriptions within 1-2 and 5-10 business days. Expedited online shipping costs $12.95 and takes 2 business days, whereas overnight shipping costs $19.95 and takes 1 business day.

What Delivery Options Does Walgreens Have?
Walgreens has 4 delivery options:
- Walgreens ExpressTM delivery
- Standard online shipping
- Expedited online shipping
- Overnight online shipping
Refer to the following table for more information about the cost, delivery time, and process for each delivery service.
Does Walgreens Have Free Prescription Delivery?
Yes, Walgreens has 2 services that provide free delivery of prescriptions:
- Walgreens ExpressTM delivery is free of cost and delivers within 1-2 business days. However, this service is not provided directly by Walgreens. Instead, all ExpressTM delivery orders are fulfilled by FedEx from your local pharmacy.
- Standard online shipping is the basic delivery service provided by Walgreens that is free of all costs. However, note that it takes 5-10 business days so make sure you take this into consideration.
How Do You Get Walgreens To Deliver Your Prescription?
Once you have filled your prescription through the online pharmacy solution of Walgreens, select ‘Ship to you’ on the ‘checkout’ page before finalizing your order and making the payment.
This will prompt you to select one of the three online shipping services I’ve detailed above.
From here, make your selection depending on how much you want to pay for the delivery and how many days you are willing to wait for it (see table above for details).
That’s it! You can proceed to make the payment and finalize the order.
Note that you have to follow a different procedure if you want to use Walgreens Express delivery.
How Can You Enroll In Walgreens Express Delivery?
Walgreens Express delivery is fulfilled by FedEx, and so it has a different process for those who want to use it.
You have to first get ‘enrolled’ in Walgreens Express to use this type of delivery service.
All you have to do is join the text message notifications service by texting JoinRx to 21525.
Once you do this, you will be enrolled in the Express Delivery service and will be able to use it.
How Can You Use Walgreens Express Delivery?
To choose Express delivery, go to the Order Status page when your prescription is ready and click on ‘Use Walgreens Express’ when asked how you want to receive your prescription.
Alternatively, you can select ‘Walgreens Express’ when you are notified by text or email that your prescription is ready.
This will save a lot of hassle by saving and initiating your preferred delivery service automatically.
Are All Prescriptions Eligible For Delivery?
Most prescriptions are eligible for delivery, but some are not.
These include prescriptions involving controlled substances (such as temperature-controlled substances) or those financed by insurance plans or healthcare programs.
For more details, call up your local Walgreens pharmacy and ask them about the substances in your prescription and whether these are eligible for delivery.
How Will You Know When Your Prescription Is Ready?
You can find out if your prescription is ready by heading over to the ‘Order Status’ page on the Walgreens website.
A more convenient way is to sign up for text and email updates by going to this link. This way, you will be notified instantly when your prescription is ready and you won’t have to check manually.
