Does Walmart Hire 14-Year-Olds In 2023?
Walmart doesn’t hire 14-year-olds to work in any department in its stores, but some other stores and restaurants will hire at this age as of 2023. At 14, you can work at AMC theaters, Baskin-Robbins, Chick-fil-A, Bruster’s, Safeway, and Giant Eagle, as long as your state laws allow you to obtain a work permit.

Unfortunately, Walmart will not hire someone unless they’re age 16 or older, including cashier and stocker job positions.

1. AMC Theaters
AMC Theaters will hire 14-year-olds to work inside its movie theaters in states where the laws allow a 14-year-old to work, although hours are minimal during the school year.
Furthermore, you can be a concession worker or work as an usher taking movie tickets from customers and providing other general customer services to guests.
Baskin-Robbins is an ice cream specialty shop located in several states, and the company hires 14-year-olds to work behind the counter in specific locations.
Also, if you’re 14, it’s best to apply for a team member or ice cream scooper position to have the best chance at landing a job at Baskin-Robbins.
Chick-fil-A is one of the most well-known fast-food chains specializing in chicken tenders and sandwiches.
In addition to that, Chick-fil-A will hire someone as young as 14 to work in the restaurants.
However, Chick-fil-A will only hire someone that young to be a front-of-house team member, including jobs like cashier or drive-thru attendant.
Additionally, Chick-fil-A is known for being a great place to work and providing excellent customer service.
Bruster’s is another ice cream shop that will hire someone 14-years-old.
So, at 14, Bruster’s will hire you as a general team member, meaning you work behind the counter taking customer orders.
5. Giant Eagle
Giant Eagle, an established supermarket chain, hires 14-year-olds as cart attendants and bakery clerks in specific locations.
However, Giant Eagle will only allow you to work those specific jobs at that age, so if pushing carts or working in the bakery isn’t appealing, it’s best just to look elsewhere.
In select locations, you can get a job at McDonald’s at 14. However, there are limits on the work you can do since you can’t work fryers and other kitchen equipment.
Further, you’d only be able to apply for a general crew member job at McDonald’s, whose duties would include:
- Preparing food
- Cleaning tables
- Cleaning bathrooms
- Sweeping floors
Another option for work if you’re 14 is Safeway. But, the supermarket chain will only hire someone that young for cart attendant, cashier, or courtesy clerk job positions.
U-Haul is always looking for online customer service representatives, and it’ll hire at age 14 for this job position in select locations.
Additionally, this is a job you can do from home, but you need to have excellent customer service skills and feel comfortable talking to people over the phone or chat system.
Kroger is one of the biggest grocery store chains in the United States, and it’ll hire someone as young as 14.
However, Kroger only hires at that age for specific jobs, so you’d be limited to an entry-level position like a bagger, cart attendant, or stocker.
10. Long John Silver’s
Long John Silver’s hires at age 14 for team member positions in select locations, meaning you’d be emptying trash, busing tables, cleaning bathrooms, and mopping floors.
While Walmart does not hire 14-years-old to work in its stores, several other companies will employ at that age as long as the state laws permit.
Furthermore, you can work at grocery stores and supermarkets like Kroger, Safeway, and Giant Eagle if you’re 14.
With that, most jobs you can get at a grocery store would include cart attendant, bagger, stocker, or customer service roles.
On top of that, ice cream shops enjoy hiring younger people to work as ice cream scoopers and general team members, including Baskin-Robbins and Bruster’s.
Also, you can work in the fast-food industry at age 14 in select locations, including McDonald’s, Long John Silver’s, and Chick-fil-A.
If fast food isn’t your style, you could always work at movie theaters like AMC, where you would be an usher or working the concession stands.
