Dry ice can be used for keeping things cold, making ice, adding atmosphere to exciting events, and tons more!
However, it’s sometimes not that easy to come by in local supermarkets, and certainly not always for a good price.
Because of this, you might be wondering whether or not Walmart sells dry ice. Here is what I discovered!
Does Walmart Sell Dry Ice?
Walmart does sell dry ice at many of its store locations. In Walmart stores that sell dry ice, customers can find it in the Penguin freezers located next to the cashiers towards the front of the store. Typically, the price of dry ice at Walmart is $1.44 per pound.
To learn more about what Walmart locations sell dry ice, where to find it in-store, alternative places to buy it, and more, keep on reading!
How Much Is Dry Ice At Walmart?
According to the Walmart website, Penguin Brand Dry Ice is available for $1.44 per pound, and that is the only brand of dry ice that Walmart stocks.
This means that it is on offer at the lower end of the typical dry ice price range, which tends to be between $1.00 and $3.00.
However, many Walmart stores sell dry ice for even less, with some selling it for as little as $1.00 per pound!
In some cases, though, the cost of dry ice in a Walmart location will be slightly higher than the $1.44 price listed online.
How To Find Out If My Local Walmart Sells Dry Ice?
If you want to avoid disappointment when shopping for dry ice, it’s worth planning ahead.
So, to find out whether your local Walmart store sells dry ice, you should call up and ask before you get there. Keep in mind that you cannot check the stock of dry ice online as you can with other Walmart products.
Finding the contact details of your local store is easy enough with the handy online Store Locator tool.
Just enter your ZIP code, city, or state, and select your nearest store from the options generated. The phone number will be listed with the store’s details.
From there, simply ask the Walmart associate who answers whether or not they sell dry ice. Additionally, from our research, Walmart’s that stock bags of ice typically sell dry ice.
Where To Find Dry Ice In Walmart?
Dry ice will be stocked in Walmart’s stores in dedicated Penguin Brand Dry Ice freezers, which will be cold enough to prevent melting.
These will usually be located near the checkouts at the front of the store. Or, you might find them near regular ice freezers. If you’re struggling to locate them, a Walmart associate will be happy to help.
You may also need to ask an associate to handle and package the dry ice for you, particularly if you do not have the appropriate work gloves.
And, just remember that you will need to store and transport any dry ice you buy in an insulated cooler, which you can purchase elsewhere in Walmart’s stores and on their website (unfortunately, Walmart does not sell Yeti products).
Why Do Some Walmarts Not Sell Dry Ice?
Some Walmart stores do not sell dry ice simply because it is harder to store than regular ice.
Dry ice, which is simply frozen carbon dioxide, freezes at -109.3ºF or -78.5ºC. So, it cannot be stored alongside the other frozen goods in Walmart’s freezers.
They, as with other commercial freezers, will be set at a temperature of around or below 0ºF.
Does Walmart Sell Dry Ice Online?
While there is a listing for Penguin Brand Dry Ice on the Walmart website, it is not possible to order dry ice from Walmart to be delivered to your door.
This is, in part, to do with the fact that dry ice only lasts a short amount of time when not properly stored.
Even in a cooler, it will likely have completely evaporated after between 18 and 24 hours. As such, it would not last the time it takes to dispatch and deliver dry ice in a standard Walmart delivery van.
What Other Ice Products Does Walmart Sell?
If you find yourself in a Walmart store that does not sell dry ice, you might find yourself looking for the next best thing. Luckily, all Walmart stores stock standard bags of ices, ice trays, ice packs, and more.
For even more choice, head to the Walmart website. As well as the typical ice products, you can also find dry ice packs for coolers.
What Stores Sell Dry Ice?
As well as Walmart, many other large grocery chains stock dry ice in some of their stores. These include:
However, if you have no luck sourcing dry ice from any of the above major brands, you could also ask in your local ice cream parlor! They will most likely use dry ice to store their stock at the correct temperature.
You can find dry ice for sale in many Walmart stores across the country, although it is not available in all locations or on the Walmart website. In Walmart stores that do stock dry ice, it will usually cost you between $1.00 and $1.44 per pound.
To find out if your local Walmart store sells dry ice, find the phone number using the online Store Locator tool and call up. The associate who answers the phone should be able to tell you.
If, however, you are unable to find dry ice at a Walmart near you, there are several other stores you can try, including Safeway, Kroger, Costco, and even your local ice cream parlor.
