Safeway Employee Discount In 2021
Safeway’s employee discount gives all staff 10% off on store brands, and 5% off on other brands as of 2021. In order to qualify for an employee discount, Safeway staff members must be past their probation period, and must hold an AirMiles card to be swiped at the cash checkout.

What Do Safeway Employees Need in Order to Use Their Discount?
Safeway employees have to acquire two key things before they are eligible for their employee discount.
First, all staff members must complete their probation period before they qualify for a discount. For Safeway, their probation period is 3 months long.
After the probation period, Safeway staff also need to acquire an Air Miles card.
This card will be used like a discount card, and swiped at the checkout when staff members wish to use their discount.
Without an Air Miles card, Safeway staff cannot access their employee discount.
In order to use their Air Miles card, Safeway employees must register their card number into Employee Self Service (ESS) on the Albertsons/Sobeys employee portal.
Safeway employees are allowed to share their discount with any family member who lives in their household.
Both the employee or family member are allowed to redeem the discount as long as their Air Miles card is registered through the Sobeys portal.
Can Safeway Employees Use Their Discount in Every Department?
Safeway employees are able to use their discounts on most in-store items, and in every department.
However, certain products are not eligible for a discount. These items are listed below:
- Lottery tickets
- Post office
- Gift cards
- Minimum price regulation items (ex. milk)
- In-store exceptions (specifics will vary per store)
- Varied third-party seller items (specifics will vary per store)
Additionally, certain non-discount items will vary per store, such as third-party seller items.
Safeway staff and potential hires are urged to speak with their store manager about which products are considered minimum price regulation items, in-store exceptions, and third-party seller items.
Where Can Safeway Staff Use Their Discount?
Because Safeway is owned by Albertsons/Sobeys, employees are allowed to use their discount at select stores under the Albertsons Companies umbrella.

Safeway staff can use their Air Miles card at any of the above stores for their employee discount.
However, please note that employees cannot earn Air Miles points at FreshCo, and can use their card for their discount only.
