Target does not accept returns for any gift cards, except for physical Target gift cards purchased before 10/1/20, or if required by law. You will need the original receipt to make the return. Target’s standard returns policy applies to items bought with a gift card.

Can I Return A Target Gift Card?
According to the Target website, for purchases made on or after 10/1/20, you cannot return Target Gift Cards or redeem these for cash or credit, unless required by law.
However, for purchases made before 10/1/20, physical Target Gift Cards can be returned to the store if unused and a receipt is provided, but mobile Target Gift Cards and Target eGift Cards cannot be returned.
What is Target’s Return Policy For Specialty Gift Cards?
According to Target’s gift cards return policy, specialty gift cards that include a restaurant, entertainment, and lottery cards are not eligible for returns.
Therefore, if you have one of the many specialty gift cards on offer at Target, including Apple, eBay, and Uber gift cards, these cannot be returned back.
Can I Return A Visa, MasterCard, or American Express Gift Card?
Whether or not you can return a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express gift card is dependent upon the date of purchase (as described earlier).
So if you purchased one of these on or after 10/1/20, your gift card cannot be returned.
However, for those purchased before 10/1/20, your gift card can be returned to any Target store by bringing the original receipt of purchase.
Can I Return An Item Bought With A Target Gift Card?
If you decide to use your Target gift card to make a purchase, you can return the item as normal and receive a refund to the same card.
Note that the returned items must still be in good condition to be accepted, and you will not receive cash or credit to any other card.
How Will I Receive A Refund If I Return A Purchase Made With A Gift Card?
According to Target.com, you will receive credit issued back to your gift card (including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express gift cards), up to the original value of the card.
This will usually show up on your card within 7-10 days, depending on the merchant.
What Can I Do With An Unwanted Target Gift Card?
There are several things you can do with a Target Gift Card if you don’t want to keep it yourself.
A great idea is to save it for a friend’s or loved one’s birthday or another special occasion. Moreover, you could also consider trading it for cash with somebody who shops at Target regularly.
Keep in mind that Target sells a huge variety of products, so it is worth taking a look around the store and considering using your gift card for a purchase.
