If you’ve ever browsed Home Depot’s shelves for flooring, you must have noticed the variety of carpet, tile, and other flooring items sold under the Lifeproof flooring brand.
However, who makes Lifeproof flooring products for Home Depot? Is it an exclusive in-house brand of the retailer? I’ve researched, and here is everything I’ve learned about this!
Who Makes Lifeproof Flooring For Home Depot?
The Lifeproof flooring brand, sold exclusively as Home Depot, is manufactured by Halstead, New England. While Halstead is an American-owned company, its manufacturing is done in China. Additionally, Halstead New England also manufactures its own products, such as Gripstrip vinyl flooring, Allure, and TrafficMaster flooring.
If you want to learn more about whether Lifeproof flooring is a good brand, whether its products are made in the U.S., and what types of flooring items it offers, keep reading!
Is Lifeproof Flooring A Good Brand?
Although some websites report Lifeproof as being costlier than other brands, Lifeproof offers a lifetime warranty on all flooring for homes and a 5-year warranty for commercial properties.
It has also been tested via the latest standards for Volatile Organic Compounds, meaning it isn’t made with dangerous heavy metals and other toxic materials.
Note that these are the same standards used to evaluate children’s toys, meaning the bar for passing the quality test is quite high.
In addition, Home Depot advertises this flooring as ‘no acclimation required’, meaning you can install it immediately on any level (including basements).
Is Lifeproof Flooring Made In The USA?
Lifeproof flooring for Home Depot is made by Halstead New England, situated in Norwalk, Connecticut.
However, many reports suggest that Lifeproof flooring itself is made by manufacturers overseas in China.
Many companies choose to develop products in China as labor costs are low and productivity is high, resulting in high profits for the company.
In fact, Halstead itself completes other manufacturing work through Chinese-based manufacturing sites.
What Is Lifeproof Flooring Made Of?
Lifeproof vinyl flooring is manufactured with a material Halstead calls ISOCORE, which is a closed-cell waterproof foam core.
This core has an underlayment attachment made of 1mm of HDPE plastic and a noise-reducing pad.
The wear layer is constructed with up to 8mm urethane and enhanced ceramic beads, and the design layer of the planks and tiles is embossed to create a realistic texture of wood or stone.
Additionally, the planks have a tongue & groove design to snap pieces together easily without the need for gluing.
While this is fine for homes, commercial establishments with heavy foot traffic may find pieces coming apart as time goes on.
Keep in mind that if you glue Lifeproof flooring down, you will void the 5-year warranty that it comes with for commercial properties.
What Varieties Of Lifeproof Flooring Does Home Depot Sell?
Lifeproof flooring comes in both plank and sheet flooring at Home Depot, with different lengths and widths of plank flooring to suit any room.
In addition, Lifeproof’s luxury plank flooring has three varieties of thicknesses available: 6.5mm, 7mm, and 8mm, each with different style options.
The 6.5mm plank offers eight styles in a variety of colors and different wood options, such as seaside oak, seasoned wood, and shadow hickory.
In contrast, the 7mm plank has five styles on offer, with multiple colors and wood to choose from, including trail oak, scratch stone, and fresh oak.
Finally, the 8mm plank has minor variation, with only three styles in different colors, such as Ocala oak and Alys oak.
Alternatively, there are eight different options when choosing Lifeproof vinyl flooring, ranging from stone to wood in multiple variations.
What Other Brands Are Similar To Lifeproof Flooring?
Lifeproof flooring has several competitors to vie with for the top spot in vinyl flooring.
Shaw is a little higher in cost than Lifeproof but offers a great luxury product for the price.
Luxury vinyl quality can often be based on the planks’ thickness; Shaw’s plank flooring lines all measure 5 mm thick at least, and their wear layers measure 20 mm thick.
Armstong’s top vinyl plank line is known as Luxe Plank, though it also offers other selections.
Its wood-style planks have a number of variations, such as maple and oak, and the flooring uses self-stick adhesive to join the boards together for easy installation.
Similarly, Mannington offers its Adura luxury vinyl plank for a competitive price, with plank flooring measuring 4 inches wide by 36 inches long with planks of 4 mm thickness.
Note that it offers a large number of wood variations to compensate for its lack of different flooring products.
