Can You Work at Walmart With No Experience?

Although it’s common to see job descriptions seeking experienced employees, there are plenty of positions available at Walmart that you can get with no work experience.

Since the minimum age to work at Walmart is 16, it’s no surprise Walmart is a common place to work for teenagers and even adults who are looking for their first job.

With that, Walmart is a great place to gain some entry-level retail experience.

As should be noted, entry-level and part-time positions such as cashier, receiving associates and merchandisers generally do not need to submit a resume alongside the application.

What Positions Need To Submit a Resume To Walmart?

At Walmart, higher-level positions are required to submit a resume, as these employees hold leadership responsibilities.

Even though most Walmart managers begin as entry-level employees, a resume is necessary to illustrate past leadership experience, financial knowledge, and education required of a higher-level employee.

With that, positions at Walmart that fall into the leadership category are:

What Should I Include In My Walmart Resume?

What Should I Include In My Walmart Resume?

If you have never written a resume, then you may have no clue where to start. First, any word processor program, such as Google Docs or Microsoft Word, has built-in templates that you can use as a guide.

Similarly, if you do a Google search, you can find fillable templates you may use. However, sometimes there’s a fee, so be mindful of that. So, here’s one example that I found!

Before writing your resume, you should visit the Walmart careers page and find your target job description, as understanding it will be necessary to know what skills to highlight.

Due to the filtering software companies use for hiring at Walmart, you need to create a resume tailored to the company, which will prevent your resume from being tossed in the trash after an initial glance.

After you understand the job description and the skills required, you’re ready to craft your resume.

How Do I Format My Resume and How Should It Look?

Since your resume is typically the first way HR “meets” an applicant, it should be formatted in a way that is easy to read and appealing to the eye.

With that, try to stick with basic fonts and stay away from colors that may overpower the lettering.

Moreover, a well-formatted resume includes these six essential elements:

  • Contact information for the applicant
  • Objective statement: a short statement that describes your intention (Please say more than to get a job!)
  • Education and work experience, including company names, department names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and supervisors
  • Skills Summary: Only include those relevant to the position you are applying for
  • Additional skills or interests that don’t fit into other categories
  • References (optional if you have a LinkedIn profile with a good reputation)

Additionally, make sure you download your completed resume as a PDF document, as the structure will stay the same no matter where you upload it, unlike some Google Docs or Word docs.

How Do I Submit My Resume To Walmart?

Once you complete your resume, you will still need to fill out the online application on the Walmart careers page.

However, a resume does not take the place of applications. Instead, look at it as a supporting document.

Therefore, when you go to the career page and select the position you’re applying for, you will be prompted to set up an applicant profile if you do not already have one.

Once the application is complete, there will be a space to upload a resume or cover letter.
