Home Depot Plant Return Policy
Home Depot allows customers 90 days to return plants such as flowers and succulents, while perennials, trees, tropical plants, and shrubs can be returned within one year of purchase. Home Depot also accepts the return of dead plants, provided customers can show proof of purchase within the time frame.

How Long Do You Have To Return Plants At Home Depot?
According to Home Depot’s standard return policy, regular plants should be returned within 90 days of delivery or in-store purchase date.
Note that regular plants include flowers (such as Dipladenia, Hydrangeas, Roses, Lavender, and Hibiscus), succulents, and house plants.
On the other hand, perennials, trees, tropical plants, and shrubs are returnable for one year (see more on plant guarantees below).
Additionally, plants purchased with a Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, Commercial Revolving Card, or Commercial Accounts will receive an extended return period of 365 days.
Can You Return Plants To Home Depot Without A Receipt?
Home Depot can track purchases made with a credit or debit card within 30-90 days of the original purchase, depending on the store’s policy.
The retailer uses a refund verification system that requires you to provide a valid photo ID such as a passport or state ID.
Keep in mind that if you register returns without a receipt regularly, your request may be denied.
Other than that, receipts of plants purchased with one of the Home Depot credit center cards (as mentioned above), are stored for 365 days.
If your return is verified, you may receive a full refund on the card that you originally paid with, and cash refunds will be dispensed as a store credit or a gift card.
Alternatively, an associate may offer store credit at the plant’s lowest sale price if the purchase cannot be verified.
Can You Return Dead Plants To Home Depot?
Home Depot will accept the return of dead plants provided you can show proof of purchase, such as a store receipt or online invoice, or verify your transaction.
Additionally, you may be able to directly exchange the dead plant for a new, fresh plant or receive a full refund.
Customers purchasing plants online will have 3-days from arrival to report damaged or dead goods by contacting Home Depot’s customer service line.
Plants such as houseplants, perennials, trees, holiday trees, wreaths, and garlands are covered by this policy.
Does Home Depot Offer A Plant Guarantee?
Bonnie plants with Miracle-Gro soil are covered by Home Depot’s Grow a Garden Guarantee. Bonnie plants include:
- Green sweet bell pepper plant
- Jalapeño hot pepper plant
- Sweet basil plant
- Sweet mini plant
Although Home Depot guarantees a harvest, you will be entitled to a full refund if your Bonnie plant does not produce during the growing season of March to October.
This refund will cover the original price of the plant and Miracle-Gro soil.
Note that these returns should be initiated in-store with your original receipt displaying the Bonnie Plant ‘and/or’ the Miracle-Gro soil purchased within 3 days of each other.
Additionally, refunds are only issued if the purchase was made within the last 12 months.
Can You Return Christmas Trees To Home Depot?
Real and artificial Christmas trees can be returned within the regular 90-day window to Home Depot.
However, with the Holiday Decor Protection Plan, you may not need to make a return.
The warranty covers repairs, electrical and mechanical failures, and power surge protection, and claims can be filed online at any time.
Customers that have had two or more service repairs for the same problem may be eligible for a replacement or full reimbursement worth the price originally paid.
What Are The Exceptions To Home Depot’s Plant Return Policy?
According to Home Depot’s plant return policy, cut flowers and floral arrangements are non-refundable and non-returnable at any time.
If the flowers you have received from an online purchase are dead, damaged, or unsatisfactory, you may need to contact Customer Support to process a replacement.
Note that you will not be charged for replacement flowers that will be sent to you.
How Do You Return Plants Purchased Online?
Plants purchased online can be returned like store-bought plants at any Home Depot location.
Returns are processed at the customer service desk or a checkout lane managed by an associate.
Simply hand over the plant with your receipt or online invoice to the cashier, making sure to bring back up payment if you are exchanging your plant for another, more expensive item.
