Safeway does allow gift cardholders to purchase gas and concession snacks at Safeway gas stations as of 2022. However, Safeway gift cards must be used at the cash register as they cannot be used at the gas pumps.

Safeway Gift Cards can be used at any store location owned by Safeway’s parent company, Albertsons Companies. These stores are as follows:

  • Vons

Customers should bear in mind that Tom Thumb store locations in California are not associated with Safeway, and therefore they will not accept Safeway Gift Cards as valid tender.

Safeway Gift Cards can be used to purchase alcohol at all store locations that sell it in-store.

Customers are urged to carry a valid ID with them while making the purchase, as Safeway will only sell alcohol to customers who are of legal drinking age in their province.

Bear in mind that this applies to US stores only. Alcohol is not available for purchase in Canadian Safeway stores.

Can I Use A Safeway Gift Card At The Starbucks Kiosk?

Unfortunately, the Starbucks kiosk in Safeway does not accept Safeway Gift Cards.

However, customers can still save money! They can earn both their Starbucks Rewards and Safeway Just For U Rewards by doing the following:

  • Download the Starbucks App on your mobile phone, and log into/create your account.
  • Download the Just For You App and log in/create your account.
  • At the Starbucks kiosk checkout, enter your Just For U phone number or scan the app, and then pay with your Starbucks app.

Customers should bear in mind that this applies to US store locations only.

Canada currently doesn’t have the Just For U Rewards program in Safeway.

They can, however, still use their Starbucks app in the Safeway Starbucks kiosk and earn rewards.

Can I Use A Safeway Gift Card From The US In A Canadian Store?

Safeway Gift Cards are accepted at all 1700+ store locations, including their Canadian stores.

This means that a customer who was given or purchased a Safeway Gift Card with US currency can still make valid purchases with that card in a Canadian Safeway location.
