IKEA, the world’s largest retailer of furniture, has a lenient returns policy that allows customers to return anything within 365 days.
Despite this, you may sometimes have a piece of furniture that was bought more than 365 days ago and that you now want to return.
This raises the question: what is IKEA’s return policy after 365 days? Here is what I’ve found out!
IKEA Return Policy After 365 Days
IKEA’s official return policy only allows customers to return items within 365 days of purchase. However, online reports have shared that previous customers have been able to return products after 365 days. As long as the purchase is recorded in the system, you have a receipt, and the item is in great condition, you may be eligible for a return.
If you want to know more about the conditions on which IKEA will return an item, whether you can return an opened and damaged item, and much more, keep on reading!
On What Conditions Will IKEA Return An Item After 365 Days?
IKEA’s official policy states that an item can only be returned within 365 days after purchase.
However, according to some IKEA employees, they still accept returns of items after 365 days as long as the following conditions are met:
- The item exists in IKEA’s system and so can be tracked
- The item is unused, and you have the original packaging
- The item is in a re-saleable condition, i.e., it is not damaged, broken, or stained
- You have the original receipt as proof of purchase
If you can meet the above criteria, most IKEA stores will return your item even after 365 days if you request them politely.
Note that in this case, you will only be refunded the lowest advertised price of the item in the last year through the mode of payment you used to make the purchase.
Can You Return An Item To IKEA After 365 Days Without A Receipt?
Since it is a year from purchasing the product, you may have lost the original receipt of your purchase over this long period of time.
If so, you can still try returning your furniture item to IKEA as long as you meet all the other conditions. The only difference is that you will not be refunded in the original mode of payment.
If your return is accepted, you may be given store credit equal to the lowest advertised price of that item, restricting you to buying something else from IKEA.

What Items Can You Not Return To IKEA?
Customers cannot return the following items at all after purchase even if you are doing so within 365 days:
- Gift cards
- Cut Fabric
- Custom countertops
- As-is products
For mattresses, IKEA gives customers a 90-day period during which they can exchange the mattress for another one if they don’t like the one they bought initially.
What Can You Do If IKEA Does Not Return Your Item After 365 Days?
If IKEA refuses to return your item after 365 days, you can try selling it on Craigslist or eBay, or gather some more items and have a yard sale.
Even though IKEA’s official policy refuses returns after 365 days, employees at various IKEA stores do accept returns after that time period if the item is unused, exists in IKEA’s database, and is in a re-saleable condition.
For returns without receipts, you will only be given the lowest advertised price of the item in-store credits.
