Since Murphy USA is located in the Walmart parking lot, it can be a nightmare trying to get in and out quickly.
Unless you go to Walmart outside of peak hours, the parking lot is already a crowded mess, and Murphy’s is usually located where traffic is heavy.
So, of course, this is the perfect storm for a bottleneck situation. Also, customers often complain that pumps are crowded and placed too close together.
How Much Does Murphy Gas Cost?
According to AAA, gas prices range from $3.03 to $3.68. At Murphy USA, gas prices (from Geico) range from $2.89 to $3.39.
As you can see, prices at Murphy USA are far lower than average prices in most locations, which is primarily why it’s so popular!
Why Are Murphy USA Gas Prices So Low?
With the Murphy Drive Rewards App, customers can earn points from purchases that they can use to save on fuel, snacks, drinks, and more!
Also, when drivers pay at the pump with a Walmart Gift Card or Walmart Payroll card, they get a discount of 3¢ off per gallon at the pump.
With that, these types of discounts allow Murphy Gas to offer fuel at the lowest prices possible.
Is Murphy USA Gas Good?
According to online customer reviews of Murphy USA, the gas station has an overall rating of 4.6/5 stars.
That said, many customers felt that the prices and convenience were the brand’s most significant assets.
Is Murphy USA Gas Bad For Your Car?
When discussing additives and vehicle performances after using Murphy USA Gas, the reviews are incredibly negative.
For example, drivers complain of engine stuttering, slow acceleration, and poor gas mileage when using gas from Murphy USA.
Despite the low price of fuel at Murphy USA and the convenience of locations, drivers recommend going to a top-tier brand to fuel up and better guard against engine damaging buildup.
One driver suggested that if you insist on buying cheap gas at Murphy USA, you should use a store-bought additive like Gumout Regane Complete, Techron Total, or Redline SL-1 that contains PEA.
If you inject this additive into your vehicle every 2,000 miles or so, the engine buildup results may be similar to those found using Top Tier brands.
What Type Of Additives Does Murphy USA Use in Its Gas?
Through an online search, I was able to find that Murphy USA uses two types of additives to improve engine function; BASF (Keropur AP 205-15) and Lubrizol (ULTRAZOL 8219CA).
Since neither additive is considered a Top-Tier additive, Murphy USA does not qualify for the Top Tier program.
Does Murphy USA Gas Have Ethanol?
Although certain locations have fuel that contains 10% Ethanol, most Murphy USA stations do not carry fuel with Ethanol.
Is Murphy USA’s Regular Gas as Good as Premium Gas?
Although many people believe that premium gas is better than regular gas, this is a myth. In fact, using premium gas can be harmful to your vehicle!
That said, premium gas was created for high-performance vehicles with larger engines. In regular cars, there’s a minimal boost to fuel economy after using premium gas.
However, if your car’s manual doesn’t indicate whether or not you should use premium gas, it should be avoided. So yes, in most cars, regular gas is just fine.

This is my 2 cents worth. I’ve used Murphy gas on & off for many years. At times my vehicles ran like crap. Other times they ran as well as using the best high price fuel around. I do not use it daily , only when it’s the only choice or super convenient since I’m sort of a prick and prefer Top Tier. When using Murphy or any other non Top Tier brand I ALWAYS will add Lucas fuel additive if possible. When doing this I have only experienced one very negative issue. Anything is possible, regardless of brand.
