Walmart sells almost every product imaginable, including many types of mattresses such as air mattresses, memory foam mattresses, and more!
So if you have recently purchased a mattress from Walmart, you may be wondering what their policy is for these items. Here is everything you need to know!
Walmart Mattress Return Policy
Walmart will accept returns of mattresses within 90 days of purchase as long as the mattress is in the original packaging and has not been opened. If a receipt is provided, customers can receive a full refund or store credit. Unfortunately, Walmart will not accept returns of used mattresses as it is unhygienic to touch and re-sell.
To learn more about why Walmart doesn’t return used mattresses, how you still may be able to get a return, and what to do if you have lost your receipt, keep on reading!
Can I Return An Opened Mattress To Walmart?
In almost every case, Walmart will not accept returns of mattresses that have been removed from the original packing (even if they have not been used).
This is mainly due to the fact that there have been many occurrences of customers returning unhygienic mattresses that cannot be touched, or customers that take advantage of the return policy.
However, there are situations where you still may be able to return a mattress to Walmart even if it has been opened and used. These typically include:
- Mattresses that are faulty and have loose springs or are uneven
- Mattresses that have an unpleasant smell
If you have a mattress that falls under any of these two categories, you may be eligible for an exchange or store credit. To begin the return process, you can reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org or visit your local Walmart.
Can I Return A Mattress To Walmart Without A Receipt?
Generally, it is best to keep your receipts for large products in case you find you have to return the item.
Walmart would prefer that mattress returns are made with a receipt, but, at their own discretion, they may be willing to make exceptions, and accept mattress returns without a receipt.
If you are making a receiptless return, you should bring along your original payment method (with a photo ID), so that it can be matched to your original purchase of the product.
Walmart stores will only allow around three receiptless returns to be made in a 90 day period (or you may receive a Walmart return wanting), and any receiptless returns made over the value of $25 will not be refunded, and can only be exchanged.
Additionally, in some cases, you may be able to return items to Walmart after 90 days.
Can You Return An Air Mattress To Walmart?
Yes, You can return air mattresses to Walmart, provided that you have original proof of purchase, and the product is still in reasonable condition. Air mattresses, unlike ordinary mattresses, can in fact be returned with packaging opened.
Much like with other Walmart products, you are able to make a return of an air mattress without a receipt.
But this should be done sparingly, as Walmart will keep track of how many receiptless returns you have made, and may limit all future returns you try to make if you abuse this system.
Can Walmart Deny Returns Of Mattresses?
Provided you meet the majority of requirements for a mattress return, most Walmart stores will more than happily fulfill your request.
However, if there are certain criteria that you do not meet, then Walmart stores reserve all rights to refuse your return, if they so wish.
If this happens, do not cause a scene, and accept the loss. You can still make a visit to another Walmart, store, and they may be willing to do it instead.
Do You Have To Return To The Same Walmart?
No, Walmart returns can be handled at any location across the United States, as the purchase records are consistent across the company.
If your local Walmart store is closed, you can head to the nearest location, and pursue a return there.
If you are planning on making a return at another Walmart store, you should aim to bring along your receipt with you, to make the experience as easy and efficient as possible, for you and the associates.

Walmart does allow for customers to return purchased mattresses. However, they must be returned unopened and still sellable. This is so that Walmart can ensure the hygiene of products they are putting onto their shelves. Walmart customers have 90 days to make a mattress return past the point of research.
